About the role
PwC’s UK Economics & Regulatory Strategy team is looking for an experienced regulatory economist at Senior Manager grade to join the firm’s expanding Regulatory Strategy & Economics practice.
We are looking for candidates with a strong background of professional experience, gained in an economic regulator, regulated company or in a consultancy. The successful applicants will need to demonstrate an ability to apply strategic thinking and economic theory in real-world contexts.
Successful candidates will be comfortable applying an economic and strategic lens to assess business, policy, and regulatory issues within the regulated utilities sector. They will also be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in delivering successful projects across one or more of the following areas: the design, assessment, and implementation of regulatory mechanisms; the development of regulatory strategy and the management of regulatory negotiations; end-to-end understanding of the price review cycle; incentive design; cost benchmarking and cost analysis; regulatory finance; and regulatory due diligence.
The ideal candidates will also be able to demonstrate an ability, with appropriate support, to play a role in the expansion of PwC’s Regulation work. Similarly, candidates should also be experienced in client management and bridging the gap between technical and strategic client teams.
Whilst the successful candidates will work across a range of industrial sectors, we would be especially interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following industries: gas and electricity networks; generation; and water.
What your days will look like:
- Managing projects in the Regulation space, including: regulatory Business Plan development and review; incentive design; cost benchmarking; regulatory finance.
- Leading key business development activity including proposal drafting and production of targeted Thought Leadership.
- Managing junior staff on projects.
- Coaching and mentoring junior staff and upskilling them to aid their progression.
- Authoring or supporting the production of reports based on client commissions.
- Providing expert advice and assistance on regulatory matters in large consultancy assignments.
- Running and supporting team tutorials on regulatory economics to benefit the whole team.
- Reviewing team work in line with PwC standards to ensure quality delivery for clients.
The role is for you if:
- Demonstrable professional experience in regulatory economics, gained from working in economic regulators, regulated companies, or in a consultancy.
- Previous relevant experience focusing on projects in one or more of the following industries: gas and electricity networks; generation; and water.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Ideally possess a Masters in Economics or equivalent professional experience.
