Head of Regulatory Compliance
Capital on Tap
We’re Capital on Tap
Capital on Tap started because small businesses were underserved. Big banks were slow, their products weren't fit for purpose, and small business owners often couldn't access what they needed. We set out to fix that.
Today we're a financial platform - not just a credit card company. We offer a best-in-class business credit card, SME-focused spend management platform, a savings product that hit £1 billion in funds within its first year, and a growing suite of tools and financial products that make running a small business easier.
1,000+ employees, £20bn in annual card spend, 200,000+ customers, 17,000+ Trustpilot reviews averaging 4.7 stars, and we're profitable. We’ve done a pretty good job so far, but we’re just getting started!

The Role
As Head of Regulatory Compliance, you'll report to the Compliance Director and lead a small team covering UK regulatory advice and compliance assurance, and help drive how we adopt and govern AI. You'll combine regulatory judgement, monitoring craft, and a pragmatic, risk-based approach
What You’ll Be Doing
- Regulatory Advice Leadership: Lead the UK regulatory advice function, giving timely, practical advice on FCA rules, Consumer Duty, financial promotions, safeguarding and e-money.
- Horizon Scanning and Regulatory Change: Oversee regulatory horizon scanning and turn regulatory change into clear actions for the business.
- Assurance Leadership: Lead the risk-based Risk and Compliance Monitoring Plan as a second-line function, including thematic reviews, control testing and action closure.
- AI Integration and Governance: Lead the use of AI within compliance, and provide second-line oversight of AI use across the business.
- Team Leadership and Enablement: Lead, coach and develop the team, and provide pragmatic, business-minded challenge that helps the first line improve controls.
Our Values & Culture
- Just Pilot: We never settle for “good enough”. We pilot new ideas fast, ask questions to figure it out, and scale quickly.
- Why Not Today? Fast is as slow as we go - speed and simplicity gives us a competitive advantage.
- Be a Buddy: We tap in from day one to help the team, we do the right thing even if it’s hard.
- Owners and Dates: We don’t chase people. If you own a task and agree to a date, the expectation is that it gets done.
- Feedback: We want our employees to flourish, so we regularly provide direct and constructive feedback.
We’re Looking For
- Regulatory Expertise: Strong working knowledge of FCA SYSC, Consumer Duty and the EMR and PSR regimes, and experience of applying practically with commercial judgement and clear written output.
- Monitoring Experience: Hands-on experience running a risk-based compliance monitoring or independent assurance programme in a UK FCA-regulated firm, with a second-line mindset and confidence challenging the business constructively.
- AI Tooling: experience working with AI tooling and deploying AI across Compliance and the wider organisation.
- Leadership: Experience leading and developing a compliance team.
- Stakeholder Influence and Communication: Comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders, governance forums and partner banks, with clear, evidence-based reports.
- (Desirable) FinTech / Payments Background: Experience in an FCA-regulated EMI, payments or banking firm, ideally with fraud, safeguarding or operational resilience exposure.
- (Desirable) Regulatory Engagement and Cross-Jurisdictional Experience: Experience engaging directly with the FCA, or co-ordinating across jurisdictions (for example UK and US).
