Grind Coffee

LondonHybridFull Time2-5 years
Posted 1 week ago

Grind is a coffee company that lives in London. Since opening Shoreditch Grind in 2011, we've expanded across London with cafés, coffee trucks and a state-of-the-art coffee roastery. Today, we serve millions of cups of coffee across London and the UK each year, and we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people make better, more sustainable coffee at home. You’ll find our coffee beans, compostable coffee pods and ready-to-drink coffee cans - in supermarkets across the UK and in hotels around the world.

Roasting hundreds of tonnes of coffee each year, the roastery is the heart of our coffee operation. Our talented team sources coffee ethically, from sustainable farms around the world, and then roasts it every day in Bermondsey, south London. From there, it's packed and sent to our cafés, to supermarkets or to our customers directly.

We think coffee can be a force for good. Whether it's through creating the UK's first compostable coffee pods, our plastic-free packaging or carbon-free shipping - we're on a mission to be the world's most sustainable coffee company.

In 2023, we created our charity, the Better Coffee Foundation, to undo the damage done by the global coffee industry - in our first year, we recovered 43 million pods' worth of ocean-bound plastic.

We’re looking for an organised, commercially minded Supply & Materials Planner to take ownership of the planning that keeps Grind’s products moving. You’ll translate demand and production forecasts into clear plans for green coffee, ingredients, packaging and finished goods, working closely with our Roastery, suppliers, manufacturing partners and Logistics team. This is a hands-on role for someone who can manage long lead times, balance availability with working capital and give the business clear visibility of stock, supply risks and future requirements.

  • Own green coffee planning from the production plan back to origin, managing requirements by contract, origin and delivery date.
  • Manage call-offs against contracted volumes, balancing stock availability, freshness and working capital.
  • Plan ingredients, extracts and packaging materials, raising purchase orders and managing lead times.
  • Work with the Production Manager to create the two-week locked Roastery plan and rolling 12-month production forecast.
  • Raise and manage purchase orders across co-packers and finished-goods suppliers.
  • Reconcile materials usage, production yields and residual stock with manufacturing partners.
  • Own weeks-of-cover reporting by format and SKU, identifying supply risks and supporting allocation decisions.
  • Monitor finished-goods shelf life and recommend redeployment, rework or write-off where required.
  • Lead supply-side execution for new product launches, ensuring products are produced and delivered on time.
  • Bring the supply and materials view into Grind’s monthly S&OP process, working closely with Logistics, Commercial and Supply Chain teams.

You’ll have.

  • Proven experience in supply, materials, production planning or a related role, with transferable experience welcomed.
  • Strong organisational skills and a structured, accurate approach to planning and delivery.
  • Experience managing products or materials with long lead times, minimum order quantities or complex supplier requirements.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with suppliers, manufacturing partners and internal teams.
  • A calm, solutions-focused approach when priorities change or supply challenges arise.
  • Commercial awareness, with an understanding of availability, stock cover, shelf life and working capital.
  • Confidence working with planning systems, Excel and detailed datasets.
  • Clear communication skills, with the confidence to highlight risks, challenge assumptions and recommend practical solutions.

Bonus if you have…

  • Experience within a growing, fast-paced or changing business.
  • FMCG, food, beverage or consumer goods planning experience.
  • Experience working with co-manufacturers, co-packers or third-party production partners.
  • Knowledge of S&OP or demand-led production planning.
  • Experience planning green coffee, commodities or other long lead-time materials.
  • A love of coffee…..
