Why Action for Children?

Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It is the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.

A bit about the role

We are looking for a proactive and creative Social Media Officer to join our social media team, helping to engage and inspire existing and potential supporters with our work across our social channels.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys telling stories through compelling content and thrives working at pace across our channels. You'll bring our campaigns and services to life through video, photography and graphics, working closely with stakeholders across the charity to ensure everything we post lands with impact. With a new social media strategy on the horizon, it's an exciting time to join the team and help shape how we engage, grow and connect with our audiences in the years ahead.

If you have a strong background in social media and hands-on content production, this role could be an excellent fit for you.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

  • Content creation: plan, film, shoot and edit engaging, audience-first content, including short-form video, photography and graphics, for our social media channels, working with key stakeholders across the charity.
  • Channel management: support the day-to-day running of Action for Children's social channels, including scheduling, publishing and monitoring content, in line with our procedures and key messages.
  • Community management: engage with and nurture our online community, responding to comments and messages and helping maintain a positive brand sentiment online.
  • Trend monitoring: keep on top of social media trends, platform updates and emerging content formats, bringing fresh ideas to the team.
  • Campaign support: work with the Senior Social Media Manager and colleagues across the organisation to bring campaigns, services, policy and fundraising initiatives to life on social media.
  • Influencer support: help coordinate influencer partnerships and user-generated content to amplify brand reach and engagement.
  • Reporting: use analytics tools to track content and channel performance, helping the team make data-driven decisions.
  • Reputation: bring any reputational issues to the immediate attention of the Senior Social Media Manager and other colleagues.
  • Team collaboration: work closely with the wider social media and communications team on planning and delivery of content.

Let's talk about you

  • Qualification in social media, marketing, communications or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Practical, hands-on skills in camera operation, video editing and graphic design, with confident use of the Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Premiere Pro and Photoshop) to produce high-quality content in-house.
  • Demonstrable experience creating engaging content for social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or TikTok.
  • Experience managing or supporting the day-to-day running of organic social media channels.
  • Community management experience, responding to audiences in a positive, on-brand way.
  • Working knowledge of social media analytics and scheduling tools.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience in stakeholder management
  • Experience working on projects and campaigns within multidisciplinary teams to achieve shared objectives.
  • Awareness of crisis communications and reputation management as they apply to social media.
  • Knowledge of diversity policies and how to apply them to deliver the job brief.
