Senior Legal Counsel
Transmission Investment Services
Join Transmission Investment as Senior Legal Counsel and play a central, hands-on role in supporting the UK energy transition. Reporting to the Corporate Development Director, the Senior Legal Counsel will work across Transmission Investment’s portfolio of transmission assets and projects, providing pragmatic legal advice on investment, corporate, construction, operational and commercial matters.
The role would suit someone who combines strong legal expertise with commercial judgement and a collaborative approach. You will work closely with colleagues across the business, project teams, external advisers, lenders, partners and our shareholder’s legal function, helping complex projects move forward while maintaining robust governance and effective risk management.
Our hybrid approach supports work-life balance while creating opportunities for colleagues to collaborate and learn together. For this role, that means working from our London or Glasgow office two days per week.
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing practical legal advice across the lifecycle of energy and infrastructure projects, including development, construction, operations and investment.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial and project agreements, including framework and procurement agreements, consultant appointments, NDAs, MOUs and heads of terms.
- Managing external counsel on specialist and project-specific matters, including EPC contracts, O&M agreements, power purchase agreements and finance documentation.
- Advising on site acquisition, planning, permitting, real estate, environmental, regulatory and consenting matters.
- Supporting the structuring of joint ventures, partnerships and collaborations, as well as project finance and stakeholder relationships.
- Managing contract execution and helping ensure agreements accurately reflect the intended commercial position and risk allocation.
- Advising on legal risk, compliance, corporate governance, company secretarial matters, data protection and sanctions.
- Supporting employment matters, including contracts, employee relations, disputes and internal investigations.
- Managing claims, disputes and contentious matters, while overseeing the scope, quality and cost of external legal support.
- Monitoring relevant legal and regulatory developments and supporting internal policies, governance processes and legal training.
What we’re looking for:
- A solicitor qualified in England and Wales, Scotland or an equivalent jurisdiction.
- At least four years’ post-qualification experience, ideally gained through a combination of private practice and in-house roles.
- A strong background in energy, infrastructure or construction law, including project development and commercial contracts.
- Advanced drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to identify risk and translate legal analysis into practical commercial advice.
- Experience advising on project structuring, delivery, disputes or claims, and complex stakeholder relationships.
- Familiarity with standard-form construction contracts such as NEC, FIDIC, JCT or IChemE would be highly desirable.
- Experience coordinating external advisers and managing legal scope, quality and budgets.
Skills and strengths:
- Commercially minded, pragmatic and solution-focused.
- A clear and confident communicator who can work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the judgement to manage competing priorities.
- Collaborative and proactive, with the ability to build constructive working relationships across functions.
- Resilient and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Professional, discreet and committed to the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality.

We are looking for someone who will help bring our company values to life:
- We are EXCELLENT at what we do
- We are COMMITTED and ensure we deliver
- We are CHALLENGING of the status quo
- We are SUPPORTIVE of each other
