Scotland Correspondent
The Guardian
We are looking for a Scotland correspondent to join the National news desk. You will generate news stories and features covering Scotland across digital, multimedia and print.
This is an internal staff secondment for up to 9 months to cover a period of parental leave.
About the role
- Produce content (text, multimedia etc) for all Guardian platforms
- Work as part of the news team to break exclusive stories and write features, interviews, and analysis, focusing primarily on stories affecting Scotland
- Keep up to date with issues across Scotland and work with national editors to identify and develop the best possible content
- Keep editors informed of stories in development
- Help develop innovative digital storytelling
- Develop and maintain key contacts and, through them, develop exclusive and original material
- Collaborate on projects with other correspondents, specialists and departments
- Develop and maintain useful contacts across politics, culture, racial justice, health, technology, business, the arts, education, social affairs and home affairs
About you
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of Scottish politics and the wider issues affecting Scotland
- Strong track record of breaking exclusive stories and feature writing
- Demonstrable reporting experience, across digital and print, preferably on a national newspaper, website or magazine
- Excellent contacts
- Preferably NCTJ trained
- Scottish and UK media law knowledge
- Full UK driving licence (desirable)
- Ideally you will have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to the role

The starting salary for this NUJ position is a minimum of £41,223, with the final offer determined by the successful candidate's skills, experience, and responsibilities.
