Corporate Bond & MTN Reporter (London)

GlobalCapital reporters produce a broad range of editorial content, mostly written, on their specialist sectors of the capital markets and contribute to our suite of data products, industry awards and other events. They are also an ambassador for the organisation in their market.

This reporter will work on the Corporate Bond and Medium Term Note sections of GlobalCapital. They will supporting the Senior Corporate Bond Reporter in providing coverage and data on the primary bond market in Europe for investment grade companies. They will also provide coverage of the medium term note market and support GlobalCapital’s MTN Monitor data product in conjunction with the data specialists working on the product.

This role is a fantastic opportunity to write to develop a deep understanding of complex, nuanced and important financial markets, and to build relationships with senior and influential people within them and also to grow alongside and exciting new data offering to GC’s subscribers.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute GlobalCapital’s coverage of the European investment grade corporate bond market.
  • Work with the Senior Corporate Bond Reporter and other senior editors to identify the most important deals, themes, people moves and other industry news and provide the most engaging and accurate analysis possible to provide readers with a unique take on the markets. This includes helping to gather and record timely and accurate data for the Primary Market Monitor database.
  • Develop GlobalCapital’s editorial coverage of the medium term note (MTN) market, getting to know key players in that market, under the guidance of senior members of GlobalCapital’s editorial team.
  • Help to develop sources of deal data in the MTN market to develop the MTN Monitor product, working in conjunction with the GlobalCapital data team.
  • Contribute to the full range of GlobalCapital’s coverage — from hard news to analysis, to opinion, to features — in house style and to tight deadlines, to maintain our distinctive editorial voice and its reputation as a reliable and indispensable tool of working in capital markets.
  • Build a broad number of deep relationships with key people in the corporate bond and MTN markets and become part of the daily fabric of those markets, ensuring our understanding of our subject and our readers is better than those of any of our rivals and that we have as many sources for stories as possible.
  • Be a voice of the Corporate Bond and MTN sections within GlobalCapital, pitching story ideas, championing special report ideas, providing insight and collaborating with the rest of the editorial team where appropriate.
  • Provide cover for other reporters, where appropriate. This enables us to provide consistent coverage and helps to broaden the journalist’s skills.
  • Represent the newspaper at industry events to provide coverage, build contacts and to become a recognised face in the capital markets. This will include travel and moderating panel discussions at public events.
  • Contribute as required to GlobalCapital’s stable of podcasts.

Reporting Lines

Reports to the Senior Corporate Bond Reporter day-to-day but will work under supervision of other colleagues depending on the work required.

Key Relationships

Works with senior editorial colleagues to produce market coverage. Although senior editorial staff guide the overall direction of coverage and have final say over what is covered, the reporter is expected to have their own ideas and manage their own workload.

Will build strong relationships with key people in and around the market to provide the sharpest and most insightful coverage and to source the most accurate and fullest data. That means having the ability to call people in the market directly rather than having to rely upon press teams and other gatekeepers.

Works with their section leader, other senior editors, and the marketing and production teams to make sure coverage reaches the biggest possible audience and is presented in the best possible way.

Requirements

  • A demonstrable interest in and aptitude for the capital markets, data and financial journalism
  • Experience of journalism, data work or financial markets is an advantage but not essential
  • Attention to detail and impeccable standards of accuracy
  • Excellent standards of written and spoken English
  • Comfortable working with data
  • Eagerness to build relationships with new and existing contacts, including senior executives
  • Integrity, tact and courtesy in dealing with people, even when under pressure
  • Ability to work under own direction when required and manage various deadlines. Inexperience notwithstanding, this is not a job that will suit people who need constant supervision
  • Willingness to travel abroad and work outside regular hours when required
  • This job is based in our London office. We offer flexible working arrangements including hybrid working
