As a Junior Concept & DMP Artist at Black Kite, you will help create exciting concepts, digital matte paintings and visual imagery for a wide range of VFX projects. Working alongside our senior artists, Creative Directors and VFX Supervisors, you'll contribute to the creative development of projects, helping translate ideas and creative briefs into compelling visual designs. You'll support the pitching process by creating mood boards, reference imagery, concepts and style frames, while developing your skills in digital matte painting and image creation. We're looking for someone with a strong artistic eye, a good understanding of Photoshop and a genuine passion for visual storytelling. You'll also have a keen interest in emerging AI tools and workflows, and be

excited to explore how these can be used to support and enhance the creative process.

We are committed to supporting your development and helping you grow as an artist. You'll work closely with experienced members of the team, receiving guidance, feedback, mentoring and training as you build your skills and confidence. Together, we'll establish a personal progression plan to help you develop your career.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Assist in creating concept artwork and digital matte paintings for a variety of VFX projects, with guidance from senior artists.
  • Develop visual ideas, environments and designs from initial research and reference gathering through to polished imagery.
  • Use Photoshop to create, manipulate and combine photographic and painted elements, developing high-quality visual imagery.
  • Support the pitching process by creating mood boards, style frames and concept artwork from creative briefs.
  • Work closely with senior artists, Creative Directors and VFX Supervisors to understand and deliver the creative direction of projects.
  • Explore and experiment with AI-powered creative tools and workflows, including ComfyUI, Magnific, Krea, Midjourney and Runway, to support image creation, visual development and enhance the creative process.
  • Follow studio workflows, maintain organised files and assets, and deliver work within agreed deadlines.
  • Take an active role in training, mentoring and developing your skills as part of your personal progression plan.

Why YOU?

  • You have a strong artistic eye and a portfolio demonstrating creativity, composition, lighting, colour and visual storytelling.
  • You have a good working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, with an interest in digital painting, image manipulation and photorealistic imagery.
  • You have a genuine interest in concept art, digital matte painting and the visual effects industry.
  • You are curious about AI tools and emerging AI workflows, and excited to explore their creative potential.
  • You have an interest in 2D and/or 3D workflows. Familiarity with software such as Nuke, Maya, Blender or similar would be beneficial, but isn't essential.
  • You enjoy experimenting with different visual styles and finding creative solutions to visual challenges.
  • You are a positive, collaborative team player who communicates well and is comfortable giving and receiving feedback.
  • You are motivated, organised and enthusiastic about learning and developing your career within a creative studio environment.

Experience: This is an entry-level opportunity, ideally suited to a graduate, emerging artist or someone with up to two years' experience. A strong portfolio, artistic ability and enthusiasm to learn are more important than extensive industry experience.
