We're looking for a creative and commercially minded Junior Designer with a passion for womenswear jersey to support the development of trend-led, customer-focused product ranges.

Working closely with the Senior Designer, you'll help shape the product direction for the department, taking ownership of part of the range and designing products that align with key business strategies, customer needs, and target price points. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious designer to develop their skills within a collaborative, fast-paced team while contributing to the success of one of the UK's leading retailers.

What you’ll do

Your key accountabilities will include

  • Work with the Senior Designer with the day-to-day activities and produce a high standard of CADs and Tech packs. Input into the Design Brief, strategies, range line sheet and reviews as appropriate
  • Research global retail and trends. Identify and communicate key opportunities. Create design boards and presentations. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the M&S customer and strong ability to anticipate their product needs.
  • Collaborate with the Buying/Technical team to agree the range and create Tech Packs for these designs. Participates department fit sessions making recommendations to deliver the best product.
  • Deputise for the Senior Designer as appropriate & coordinates, motivates and acts as mentor to the Assistant Designer on the team.
  • Collaborate with the Designers and team to meet critical path deadlines and deliver the right designs, at the right time. Support effective working relationships with our Sourcing Office teams and Suppliers

Who you are

Your skills and experience will include

  • You are working to Junior Designer or Assistant Designer and an expert in the field of design with design experience within the Retail or manufacturing industry. Experience in jersey tops
  • Strong design and CAD skills with an eye for detail. High level of proficiency in design related CAD software to include Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and In Design
  • Strong trend interpretation, knowledge of current competition and directional brands
  • Strong understanding of fabric, fit and garment make up to ensure product integrity. Experience in direct design sourced product, working with Technology/Design and Buying to create high standards of CAD and Tech packs
  • Multitask orientated with the ability to work to tight deadlines to the critical path
  • Confidence and, or experience leading a category
