Role Title: HS&E Advisor

Business Unit: Group Services

Location: Uxbridge

Role Overview:

As an HS&E Advisor you will support the delivery of Health, Safety and Environmental standards across projects within your assigned Business Unit.

Working closely with the Lead HS&E Advisor and Operational teams, you will provide professional advice, monitoring and support to help ensure projects are planned and delivered safely and in accordance with company standards and legislation.

You will play a key role in engaging with project teams and the supply chain, helping to promote a proactive culture of health, safety and environmental responsibility across all areas of the business.

What You Will be Doing:

  • Provide practical HS&E advice and guidance to project teams and operational managers.
  • Support the safe planning and delivery of construction activities across projects.
  • Assist teams in identifying, assessing and managing health, safety and environmental risks.
  • Build positive working relationships with project stakeholders to encourage best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Undertake HS&E monitoring activities, including SSERs and other assurance processes.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and support teams in implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Ensure actions arising from monitoring activities are recorded, tracked and closed out within agreed timescales.
  • Support projects in maintaining compliance with company standards and legal requirements
  • Support the investigation of incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
  • Assist in identifying root causes and contributing factors.
  • Help implement corrective and preventative measures to reduce future risk.
  • Promote learning and the sharing of lessons learned across projects.
  • Support the implementation of environmental standards, controls and improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with Environmental Managers and Advisors to ensure environmental risks are effectively managed.
  • Promote sustainable working practices, including waste reduction, pollution prevention and resource efficiency.
  • Encourage environmental awareness across project teams and supply chain partners.
  • Collaborate with site teams to promote safe, healthy and environmentally responsible ways of working.
  • Support supply chain partners in understanding and meeting HS&E expectations.
  • Encourage workforce engagement and participation in HS&E initiatives.
  • Help foster a culture where everyone feels empowered to raise concerns and contribute ideas for improvement.
  • Support the consistent application of HS&E policies, procedures and standards across projects.
  • Assist in ensuring risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work are suitable, communicated and understood.
  • Promote compliance with the HS&E Business Management System.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and best practice sharing.
  • Support the delivery of the Challenging Beliefs, Affecting Behaviour (CBAB) programme.
  • Encourage positive behaviours, proactive safety conversations and visible leadership.
  • Contribute to initiatives that strengthen HS&E culture and employee wellbeing.
  • Help create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected and able to contribute safely.

About You:

  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental management within the construction industry or a related sector.
  • Experience in an HS&E role, or a role involving health, safety, environmental or operational risk management.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage with people at all levels.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across projects within the Business Unit.

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • IOSH membership, or a willingness to work towards membership.
  • Experience supporting incident investigations and assurance activities.
  • Experience of working within a construction, infrastructure, engineering or related environment.
