Head of Business Risk and Controls Management

The Head of Business Risk & Controls is responsible for leading the Bank's First Line of Defence (1LoD) Risk & Controls function across the branch, supporting the Private Banking and Corporate & Institutional Banking businesses, together with key Control and Corporate Functions including Finance, Human Resources and First Line Compliance.

The role is responsible for implementing and embedding the Bank's Operational Risk Management Framework within the First Line, strengthening governance, enhancing the control environment and promoting effective risk ownership across the organization.

Some Key Responsibilities include:

• Act as the trusted Risk & Controls partner to Business Heads and Functional Heads, providing practical advice and guidance to support sound business decisions and effective risk management.
• Lead implementation of the Bank's Operational Risk Management Framework within the First Line of Defence.
• Own and maintain the Bank's First Line Internal Controls Framework.
• Lead the Business Controls Committee, ensuring effective governance, reporting, action tracking and escalation of key risks and issues.
• Partner with the Change Lead, Product Management and Business stakeholders throughout the New Product & Process Approval (NPPA) process.
• Act as the primary liaison between the Business, Corporate Functions and the Bank's independent control functions, including Operational Risk, Compliance, Financial Crime, Credit Risk, Legal, Technology Risk and Internal Audit.
• Oversee the identification, reporting and management of operational risk events, ensuring robust root cause analysis and timely remediation.

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional qualification.
• Minimum 12 years' experience in Business Risk & Controls, Operational Risk, Internal Controls,
• Enterprise Risk or related disciplines within banking or financial services.
• Strong understanding of the Three Lines Model and First Line Risk & Controls responsibilities.
• Experience implementing Operational Risk Management Frameworks within regulated financial institutions.
• Demonstrated experience managing Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), controls testing programmes, governance and internal controls monitoring.
• Experience supporting New Product & Process Approval (NPPA) or equivalent change governance processes.
• Experience developing and reporting Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), management information and Executive Committee reporting.
• Strong knowledge of FCA and PRA regulatory expectations, operational risk and governance frameworks.
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills with the ability to work effectively across Business, Operations and Control Functions.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
