Events & Membership Executive
Urban Land Institute
About ULI
The Urban Land Institute is a non-profit research and education organisation, founded in 1936 and supported by its members. We have more than 48,000 members worldwide and around 5,500 across Europe, spanning 15 national councils, with a particularly strong presence in the UK, Germany, France and the Netherlands.
Our mission is to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide. Our current priorities are helping the industry decarbonise, educating the next generation of real estate leaders, and delivering affordable housing that meets the needs of the people who live in it.
About the Department
The Events, Programmes and Product Councils team is based in our London office and delivers everything ULI Europe puts in front of its members: conferences, awards, education programmes, forums, and our Product Councils.
Product Councils are the heart of how ULI members learn from each other. Each one is a small, curated group of senior real estate and built environment leaders who meet twice a year to work through the issues shaping their part of the industry. We run 14 of them across Europe. Meetings are 20 to 40 people, deliberately intimate, and organised entirely in-house by our team.
We are a small team in London, which means everyone here gets close to the work. One of us loves building event content, one thrives on logistics, one is at their best with members. We are looking for the next person to add to that mix.
The Role
This is a chance to take genuine ownership of member relationships and events at a global institution, at a point where our Product Councils are growing.
You will spend around 75% of your time on Product Councils and 25% supporting the wider events and programmes calendar.
You will own around five European Product Councils yourself. That means partnering directly with the council chairs to shape meeting agendas, running the meetings end to end, and managing council membership as members roll off and new applications come in. You will have the support of an experienced team around you, but these councils will be yours.
It is a hands-on job. You will be close to the detail, and there is a real administrative side to it. If you are someone who takes satisfaction in things being organised properly and running exactly as they should, you will enjoy this.
Product Councils
- Own the end-to-end delivery of your Product Councils, acting as the main point of contact for council chairs.
- Work with chairs to build meeting agendas and shape the content of each meeting.
- Manage all meeting logistics, including venue, catering, AV, travel, registration and delegate communications.
- Manage council membership, including members rolling off, reviewing new applications, and onboarding new members.
- Run the marketing and member outreach that drives attendance at council meetings, using Higher Logic and Real Magnet.
- Keep council data accurate in netFORUM and use it to inform engagement decisions.
Events and Programmes
- Support the delivery of European events, awards and education programmes, both in person and online.
- Help with logistics, venue and supplier research, speaker briefs and event materials.
- Set up and host Zoom webinars.
- Maintain the European events and programmes calendar.
- Partner with our Marketing and Communications colleagues on campaigns and materials.
Across the team
- Act as a first point of contact for the team inbox.
- Prepare reports, presentations and invitation lists.
- Process supplier invoices and build good working relationships with suppliers.
- Support registration and membership revenue collection across events, programmes and councils.
What Are We Looking For
Required
- Around 2 to 3 years of events experience. The size of the events matters far less to us than whether you have owned them.
- Confidence with senior stakeholders. You will be working alongside industry leaders, and part of the job is being able to say no to a member when it is the right answer.
- Strong organisational skills and real attention to detail. You are happy with an admin-heavy workload and you like getting things right.
- Clear, articulate communication, in writing and in person.
- The ability to juggle several projects at once, particularly around our June and November event peaks, and the initiative to use the quieter periods well.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Word and Excel, and comfort with Zoom.
- Willingness to travel occasionally within Europe, and to work the occasional evening or weekend around the event calendar.
- Educated to degree level, or equivalent work experience.
Preferred
- Experience at a membership association, professional body or not-for-profit.
- Marketing experience, particularly email campaigns and audience targeting.
- Experience with an association management system such as netFORUM, or with Higher Logic.
- An interest in real estate, cities or the built environment.
- Other European languages.
What Success Looks Like
- You own your councils with confidence and make day-to-day decisions without needing to check in.
- Chairs and members trust you, come to you first, and know you will handle it.
- Meetings run smoothly, attendance is strong, and the detail is right every time.
- You see beyond delivery. You spot ways to work more efficiently, ideas for growing a council, and people worth approaching about membership.
- Your colleagues feel the difference. The team has more capacity because you are here.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is £36,500 to £39,700. Actual compensation will be based on experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors.
ULI offers a comprehensive benefits package including private medical and life insurance, generous annual leave, and a pension scheme with employer contribution.
Working Conditions
The Urban Land Institute is committed to shaping the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide, and we embrace our core values of integrity, collaboration, inclusion, and excellence in service to our members. In alignment with the Board of Directors’ strong commitment to in-person collaboration, our roles require regular on-site presence to foster teamwork, innovation, and organisational effectiveness.
This role is based in our London office, where the team works together two to three days a week, and more often in the run-up to events. The role includes occasional travel within Europe and occasional evening or weekend work around the event calendar.
ULI is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from everyone and make employment decisions without regard to age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
