Job Title: Engineering Buyer

Location: London, UK

Report to: Engineering Manager

Start date: ASAP

Purpose of the role

We are the London office of a diversified group with operations in over seven countries around the world. This position is within the London office in the Engineering Department. The successful candidate will be operating within a small international procurement team, involved with the procurement of Spare Parts and Assemblies for Manufacturing Industries in the Middle East. There will be opportunities for sourcing products from Europe and the Far East. Career path for the right candidate to grow within the business and travel to International Trade Fairs & Exhibitions.

Key deliverables (Essential duties and responsibilities)

  • Understand the internal customer’s requirements and Efficient preparation of Request for Quotations
  • Receive offers from Vendors
  • Compare and evaluate offers
  • Prepare cost sheets and calculate margins.
  • Prepare offers using our bespoke SAP system.
  • Negotiate with Vendors.
  • Raise Purchase Orders.
  • Prepare Reports
  • Selection and development of vendors to best meet the specifications, quality and logistical requirements.
  • Accurate data entry using in house SAP system
  • Monitor telephone and e-mail enquiries on behalf of engineering team
  • Update product brochures and catalogues
  • Database management

Person Specification

  • Qualification in Engineering, Technical Studies, or a Science-related discipline is required.
  • Required 4 to 5 Years of Experience in Buying / Procurement function involved in purchasing technical products or spares.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of procurement principles
  • Familiarity with INCO terms & Forex / Exchange rates as this is an international Trading environment.
  • Ability to evaluate suppliers and negotiate favourable terms of business.
  • Hands on ability to manage and enter enquiries, quotations and contracts onto computer systems.
  • Strong numerical skills and high level of computer literacy
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated experience with ERP systems is highly desirable, particularly SAP Business One
  • Ability to learn and deliver results.
  • Language skills Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of European languages would be an added advantage.
  • High attention to detail, with a methodical and organised approach to work
  • A proactive, flexible, and “can-do” attitude
  • Have a flexible approach to working hours when necessary
  • Have the ability to prioritise work effectively
  • Be a confident user of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Have ability and enthusiasm for learning new systems and IT packages.
