Overview

Join our Climate Resilience Solutions (CRS) team as a Disaster Risk Finance Advisor and help shape innovative risk financing programmes around the world. In this role, you will support the analysis, understanding and transfer of risk for institutions, MSMEs, smallholders and governments, working closely with our in-house Business Development, R&D and Underwriting teams.

You Are

You are a fast learner and comfortable working to tight deadlines. You have a keen interest and experience in climate risk finance and disaster resilience for emerging markets. You have excellent communication skills and the ability to work across sectors and contexts to meet objectives. You are keen to build your own profile as a DRF expert.

Your Responsibilities

  • Successful implementation of climate and disaster risk finance and insurance advisory assignments.
  • Development of innovative parametric insurance products, including conceptualisation, index design, structuring and pricing.
  • Engagement with external stakeholders to design and execute workshops, discussion groups, and semi/structured interviews, supporting a collaborative approach to DRF instrument design.
  • Support clients to select appropriate DRF instruments based on their needs through activities including desk-based literature reviews, dataset assimilation and interpretation of quantitative risk assessments
  • Preparation of high-quality project outputs in varied formats including reports, presentations, and analytical project outputs.
  • Project management for projects across the entire CRS project portfolio. This will entail daily communication with project partners to ensure the timely delivery of project milestones and financial monitoring.
  • Preparation of proposal and offer materials for varied clients, e.g. multilateral and regional development banks, (sub)sovereign actors, humanitarian and conservation organisations.
  • Monitoring the development impact of projects across the portfolio and contributing to regular project reports.
  • Regular engagement with stakeholders across the company to understand and optimise the use of CP Group products and services.
  • Seek to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the DRF universe and, where appropriate, represent the CP Group in external events, conferences and forums.
  • The position is either based in London (Lloyd’s Building) or Zurich, with international travel for project delivery, client meetings and conferences.
  • The role will include 4-5 weeks of international business travel to countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

You Have

  • Minimum of BSc degree or equivalent preferably in Climate Science, Mathematics, (Risk) Engineering, Economics, Geography, Business/Finance or similar field.
  • 1-3 years of work experience in DRF implementation
  • Experience working with geospatial datasets, particularly relating to geophysical and climate variables.
  • Good knowledge of climate and disaster risk finance and insurance.
  • Good project management and presentation skills. Ability to create compelling documents and presentations, experience in reporting and writing.
  • Proven interest and ability to work in emerging markets. Experience in project work in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean (especially in-country) is an asset.
  • Fluent in English; good command of French or Spanish is considered a strong asset
  • Familiarity using python and/or other comparable quantitative analytical approaches is an asset.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities and work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders within own level in geographically and culturally diverse regions.
  • A UK or CH work permit

The Climate Resilience Solutions (CRS) team supports public, private and development-sector clients in strengthening resilience to climate and disaster risks. The team combines expertise in climate and disaster risk analytics, disaster risk financing, parametric risk transfer, and capacity building. CRS designs tailored risk financing strategies and parametric solutions, advises on the optimal mix of financial instruments, and works closely with governments, development banks, humanitarian organisations, insurers and communities. A strong emphasis on stakeholder engagement ensures that risk information and financial solutions are practical, locally relevant and support effective decision-making.
