Director, Global Head of Proposals - Services
Citi
Are you looking for a career move that will put you at the heart of a global financial institution? Then bring your skills in analysis, problem solving, and communication to Citi’s Services business.
By Joining Citi, you will become part of a global organisation whose mission is to serve as a trusted partner to our clients by responsibly providing financial services that enable growth and economic progress.
Team/Role Overview:
The Global Head of Proposals is a director-level leadership role with full accountability for the strategy, quality, operational excellence, and future transformation of Citi Treasury & Trade Solutions (TTS) global proposals function. This individual will lead five regional cluster teams and manage a strategic third-party vendor relationship, collectively responsible for producing professional, high-impact proposals across all TTS service lines and client segments.
This is a role for a leader who can simultaneously deliver operational excellence today while boldly preparing the function — and the people within it — for an AI-enabled, rapidly evolving future. As Citi's solutions portfolio expands and client expectations grow more sophisticated, the proposals function must evolve in lockstep: faster, smarter, more personalised, and consistently of the highest standard. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in proposals and bid management, exceptional people leadership skills, a genuine passion for quality and client-centricity, and the vision and courage to drive meaningful transformation across a globally distributed team
What you’ll do:
- Design and lead a structured solutions upskilling programme for all proposals professionals globally, covering the full breadth of TTS products and services including cash management, trade finance, liquidity solutions, payments, escrow, and digital treasury tools.
- Partner with Product, Sales, and Subject Matter Experts to develop accessible, engaging learning content that translates complex product capabilities into clear, client-relevant value propositions.
- Establish a regular cadence of solutions briefings, product deep-dives, and knowledge sessions — ensuring teams are continuously updated as Citi's solutions evolve and new capabilities are launched.
- Develop a competency framework for proposals professionals that defines expected levels of solutions knowledge by role and seniority, with clear pathways for development and assessment.
- Embed value-add thinking into the proposals process — training teams not just to describe what Citi offers, but to articulate why it matters to each specific client, connecting solutions to client pain points, strategic objectives, and measurable outcomes.
- Retain a library of value-add narratives, case studies, and client impact stories that teams can draw upon to enrich proposals with evidence-based, differentiated content.
- Measure and track solutions knowledge across the function, using assessments, peer reviews, and win/loss analysis to identify gaps and continuously improve the programme.
Responsibilities:
- Define and execute the global proposals vision for Citi's Treasury & Trade Solutions business, setting the direction for five regional cluster teams to deliver high-impact, commercially compelling client proposals.
- Lead and develop regional team leaders across all clusters, establishing a high-performance culture built on accountability, continuous learning, and measurable results.
- Establish global standards, quality frameworks, and governance for proposal production — tracking win rates, turnaround times, and client feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Design and deliver a solutions upskilling program across the global proposals function, covering cash management, trade finance, liquidity solutions, payments, escrow, and digital treasury tools.
- Build and lead an industry sector intelligence program that equips proposals professionals with the contextual knowledge needed to position Citi's solutions against each client's specific business environment.
- Oversee the outsourced vendor relationship — managing contract governance, performance expectations, SLAs, and quality standards to ensure the vendor team operates as a seamless extension of the internal function.
- Drive the adoption of generative AI, intelligent automation, and advanced analytics across the proposals function — leading the transformation of how proposals are produced, personalized, and optimized at scale.
- Manage the global proposals budget, allocating resources effectively across internal and external teams to maximize efficiency and responsiveness to business demand.
What we’ll need from you:
- Significant experience in proposals, bid management, or related client-facing functions within financial services, transaction banking, or a comparable global institution.
- Proven track record of leading large, globally distributed teams across multiple geographies and time zones, with direct experience managing regional team leaders.
- Demonstrated experience managing outsourced or third-party vendor relationships at scale, including contract governance and performance management.
- Deep understanding of treasury, trade, and transaction banking products and services — with the ability to engage credibly with product specialists and translate complex capabilities into client-relevant narratives.
- Experience driving significant organisational transformation and change management programmes, including technology adoption and process re-engineering.
- Strong commercial acumen with a track record of contributing to revenue growth through proposals excellence and win rate improvement.
Leadership & Interpersonal Capabilities
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft, review, and elevate compelling, client-centric narratives.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders across Sales, Product, and Executive leadership without direct authority.
- Strong analytical mindset with experience using data and metrics to drive performance improvement and resource allocation decisions.
- Proven ability to build and sustain high-performing, inclusive team cultures across diverse global markets.
- High cultural intelligence — comfortable leading and engaging with teams across NAM, LATAM, UK & Europe, MEA, and Asia.
AI & Technology Readiness
- Demonstrable curiosity and active engagement with AI, generative tools, and emerging technologies relevant to content production and proposals management.
- Experience evaluating, piloting, or implementing AI-powered tools within a proposals or content function (highly desirable).
- Ability to translate complex technology capabilities into practical, human-centred workflows for non-technical teams.
- Forward-thinking mindset with the ability to anticipate and plan for technological disruption within the function.
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.
- Professional certifications in bid management (e.g., APMP Foundation or Practitioner) are advantageous.
