Director, Delivery Practitioner
BNY Mellon
Position Summary:
The Director, Delivery Practitioner is a senior individual contributor role within BNY’s Delivery job family, accountable for leading complex, end-to-end delivery engagements that enable BNY’s strategic pillars, including driving client-focused outcomes, operational excellence, and disciplined execution. The role provides expert delivery leadership across multiple programs or large-scale initiatives, ensuring commitments are met on time, within scope, and to required quality by applying advanced delivery frameworks, governance, and controls. The Director, Delivery Practitioner operates as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, integrating BNY’s principles by role-modelling accountability, collaboration, and integrity in all interactions, and by fostering a culture of continuous improvement, transparency, and risk-aware decision-making across delivery teams. The role influences cross-functional teams and external partners without direct line authority, aligning complex workstreams to strategic objectives and ensuring that delivery practices remain consistent, scalable, and compliant with firmwide standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead the planning and execution of complex, multi-workstream delivery initiatives by defining scope, objectives, integrated plans, and success metrics, ensuring alignment to BNY’s strategic priorities and governance standards.
Drive disciplined delivery governance by establishing and running forums, reporting routines, risk and issue management processes, and decision-escalation paths, ensuring transparency, informed trade-offs, and timely resolution of delivery challenges.
Partner with senior business, Engineering, and functional leaders to translate strategic goals into executable delivery roadmaps by challenging assumptions, sequencing work, and balancing client impact, risk, and resource constraints.
Champion consistent delivery methodologies and best practices by mentoring delivery practitioners, sharing lessons learned, and embedding continuous improvement practices, thereby improving predictability, quality, and efficiency across initiatives.
Ensure strong risk, control, and compliance outcomes in all delivery activities by proactively identifying delivery, operational, and regulatory risks, coordinating mitigation plans, and aligning to internal control frameworks and policies.
Build and maintain influential relationships with internal and external stakeholders by proactively engaging, communicating progress and issues clearly, and demonstrating BNY’s principles of trust, ownership, and client focus in all delivery engagements.
Education/Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related discipline
Advanced certification in project/program management or delivery methodologies (e.g., PMP, PgMP, Agile/Scaled Agile) preferred
Additional training or certification in risk management, governance, or change management beneficial
Experience:
Typically 12-15 years of experience
SKILLS:
Advanced delivery and program management expertise, including planning, governance, risk management, and cross-functional coordination for complex initiatives
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders, negotiate priorities, and drive alignment without direct authority
Strategic and analytical thinking with the ability to translate high-level objectives into structured delivery plans and to drive continuous improvement in delivery practices
