Role Overview:
The Chief Risk Officer (CRO), FTSE Russell and Risk Intelligence, provides second line risk leadership and strategic oversight across two of LSEG’s key businesses:
- FTSE Russell – a global provider of benchmarks and indices, with industry-leading capabilities across asset classes, styles and strategies, supporting customers in making informed investment decisions;
- Risk Intelligence – a global business focused on preventing financial crime and fraud, enabling customers to transact quickly, safely and ethically;
Reporting directly to the Group Chief Risk Officer and leading a small, specialist team of risk managers with deep domain expertise, the role holder will ensure risk is positioned as strategic partner to the divisional leadership with clear line of sight across core strategic, resilience, regulatory and emerging risk themes.
The role operates horizontally across both Divisions and works in close partnership with other Divisional CROs and central risk teams where risks intersect. A core expectation of the role is to influence strategic, commercial and operational decision-making. This includes, influencing strategy, investment prioritisation and transformation outcomes; ensuring risk considerations are integrated early into product development, new business initiatives and go-to-market/commercial models and; supporting the business transition to a more product-led operating model, including driving efficiency and control through New Product Approval processes and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
The role holder will be responsible for developing a joined-up, end-to-end risk view aligned to product led principles spanning Product, Operations, Engineering, and relevant Corporate Functions. This includes providing independent advice, challenge and oversight on strategy, transformation and material change initiatives. Ensuring risks are clearly identified, assessed, monitored and managed in line with agreed risk appetite. Embedding effective, scalable risk management practices across product lifecycle and business operations and driving a shift toward strategic risk management, with particular focus on end-to-end resilience and control effectiveness.
Success in the role requires strong engagement across senior business leaders and ensuring clear, consistent end-to-end risk view across both businesses, with a demonstrable improvement in resilience, control maturity and clarity around core execution / strategy risks. The role hold will ensure Group Risk is embedded into product and commercial decision processes, with a credible and influential presence at divisional leadership and governance forums.
Key Responsibilities:
The role has lead responsibility for providing effective risk oversight for FTSE Russell and Risk Intelligence, working collaboratively across the division as well as with other stakeholders in Group Risk and the wider group. Specific responsibilities include:
- Oversight and challenge of implementation of the Group’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) spanning strategy, resilience, risk, M&A, change and transformation topics.
- Providing independent 2LoD expert assessment of emerging and change risks associated with new strategy, new products, major projects; as well as those impacting the overall risk profile.
- Identification and assessment of Key, Emerging and Transformation risks, including, but not limited to, those associated with new product development, system changes and operational resilience.
- Senior strategy and engagement with the CRO and leaders in first line management to facilitate, evaluate and report on Risk and Control Assessment and Scenario Analysis outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with the CRO and other members of Group Risk to ensure that there is a consolidated picture of the risks being run across the Division provided to relevant Group, Divisional and Legal Entity governance meetings.
- Together with their team, monitor all incidents, losses, claims and complaints to ensure they are raised promptly and, in due course, recorded in the operational risk system with comprehensive root cause analysis and action tracking for those deemed to be material.
- Further, contribute to incident reviews and providing trend analysis from a second line risk perspective to identify themes and root causes as well as driving wider read across and thematic reviews from findings.
- Work with first line Risk teams to provide input and challenge over the accuracy, relevance, completeness and timeliness of the Key Risk Indicators used to monitor all the risk profile and compliance with risk appetite.
- Work with Engineering, Operations and other Group Risk teams to ensure technology and data risks are appropriately reflected in their approach to risk management, including its reporting and analysis.
- Attend and contribute effectively to key governance fora to represent Group Risk.
- Conduct risk reviews, thematic analysis, deep dives, and investigations.
- Make full utilisation of all key risk management tools and provide advice and training to first line partners to ensure accurate use of tools.
- Provide leadership and development of the team, help drive the Group Risk agenda and work collaboratively on wider initiatives e.g. Risk Culture.
Key Skills And Experience:
- Educated to a degree level, with relevant further professional qualifications considered an advantage.
- Familiarity with data management, data rights and the end-to-end data lifecycle, including hands-on experience with the technical implementation of data solutions e.g. Fabric, Lakehouse, Databricks, Snowflake, either through prior risk management experience or other relevant roles (trading, operations, market data etc.).
- Extensive experience working in senior business, index and benchmark, content operations, risk management, compliance or audit roles at major global organisations would be preferred.
- Strategic problem solver with ability to deliver with quality and efficiency coupled with excellent analytical skills and consistent track record in innovative thinking.
- Sound judgement with experience of balancing competing factors to deliver optimal outcomes.
- Demonstrable success in the delivery of major projects involving significant complexity.
- Strong collaborator, with the credibility, expertise and gravitas to influence at the senior management across the Division and Group.
- A good team player who easily engages and collaborates across the Group.
- Well established network of contacts across the financial services industry.
