Company Description

Hi! We're UW. We’re on a mission to take the headache out of utilities by providing them all in one place. One bill for energy, broadband, mobile and insurance and a whole lot of savings!

We’re aiming to double in size as we help more people to stop wasting time and money—big ambitions, to be delivered by people like you.

Got your attention? Read on…

We are people helping people. It’s all about you…

We are looking for a commercially minded Commercial Portfolio Analyst to join our Energy team. If you love digging into data, connecting numbers to real-world commercial decisions, and want a role where your work actively shapes multi-million-pound decisions, this could be for you.

We don’t just want someone who builds spreadsheets; we want someone who is genuinely curious about what the numbers mean for our customers and our bottom line. You are an analyst who looks beyond the raw data to understand the story behind it.

Job Description

We're all about impact. What you’ll do..

This isn’t a back-office reporting role where work disappears into a drawer. As a Commercial Analyst, you will have direct ownership of models that guide our energy metering strategy and ensure we deliver on our major commercial commitments.

Here is where you’ll make your mark:

  • Powering Smart Meter delivery: From day one, your flagship focus will be our Smart Demand planning. You will ingest and calibrate complex data streams—balancing customer demand against third-party installer capacity—to help UW stay on course to install thousands of smart meters this year.
  • Driving P&L optimisation: You will model and forecast our growing metering portfolio, building scenario and sensitivity frameworks that actively capture margin and protect against commercial risk.
  • Influencing major contract levers: You’ll evaluate commercial trade-offs across key supplier relationships, delivering the evidence base that senior leaders rely on to negotiate and make strategic calls.
  • Moving from data to direction: You’ll turn ad-hoc requests into strategic opportunities, providing regular, high-visibility insights that shape our energy team’s roadmap.

We get it done together. Your team and the people you will work with…

At Utility Warehouse, nobody works in a silo. We believe the best results come from high trust, open communication, and genuine collaboration.

  • Dedicated technical mentorship: You will report directly to a Senior Commercial Analyst, an exceptional data specialist who will coach you day-to-day, helping you take your modelling skills to the next level and teaching you advanced analytics tools like SQL and Python as you grow.
  • Strategic leadership & commercial vision: You’ll work alongside our Head of Commercial Contracts, and Commercial Managers who will guide your commercial instincts, contractual awareness, and executive stakeholder presence.
  • Executive visibility: You’ll have direct exposure to our Energy Director, regularly presenting data that underpins key commercial decisions for the entire energy division.
  • External partner collaboration: You’ll work closely with key external partners like our primary metering provider, fostering a collaborative, joint problem-solving relationship that balances commercial rigour with shared operational success.
  • How we work: We enjoy a flexible hybrid setup. Our formal baseline is two days per week in our vibrant Farringdon office, for collaborative days, meeting, workshops, and team lunches.

Qualifications

You will be a great fit if you:

  • Think like an owner: You don’t just deliver what’s on the ticket. When you spot an anomaly, a trend, or an inefficiency in a dataset, your first instinct is to investigate and propose a practical solution.
  • Are sharp with spreadsheets, sharper with context: You are confident wrangling messy, multi-layered data in Excel (from complex logic to sensitivity tables), but your real superpower is connecting that analysis to commercial P&L drivers and margins.
  • Have 2–3 years of commercial or analytical experience: You might have a STEM or numerical degree, or proven experience in business analytics, commercial finance, or supply chain. Prior energy sector experience is welcome, but by no means a dealbreaker.
  • Love to learn: You don’t need to be a finished SQL or Python developer today. What matters is that you have a proactive mindset, strong numerical intuition, and an appetite to expand your technical toolkit under dedicated mentorship.
  • Keep it simple: You can take a complicated operational scenario and translate it into a clear, compelling insight that anyone can understand and act on.
