About the team

Join the Argos Commercial & Digital team in a genuinely unique buying role. Rather than managing a broad supplier base, you will work solely with Apple, giving you the opportunity to build an in-depth strategic partnership and develop a detailed understanding of their proposition, products and commercial opportunities. You will still have broad internal exposure, collaborating with Merchandising, Product Development, Technical, Global Sourcing, Digital, Marketing and Finance, while supporting Assistant Buyers and helping shape a compelling customer offer.

More about the role

As a Buyer, you will translate the category strategy into clear range, pricing, sourcing and trading plans for your assigned products. A key point of difference is the role's dedicated relationship with Apple. You will become the central buying contact for that partnership, using customer, market and commercial insight to influence plans, identify opportunities and deliver agreed measures across sales, margin, stock, availability, digital performance and customer satisfaction.

Day to day, you will build range plans and forecasts, shape pricing and promotional activity, track trading performance and maintain a strong, focused supplier relationship. Alongside the core buying responsibilities, you will be involved in a range of projects that support the development of the category and customer proposition. You will partner with Merchandising and other specialist teams to turn project outcomes into practical commercial actions, while guiding Assistant Buyers and stepping up to support the wider category when needed.

More about you

You will bring practical buying experience and a strong understanding of how range, pricing, supplier and trading decisions affect commercial performance. You will be comfortable developing a close, constructive and appropriately challenging relationship with a single supplier, while maintaining clear commercial objectives and customer focus. You can work confidently with financial and performance data, balance core trading activity with project delivery, and turn customer, market and competitor insight into clear actions and recommendations.

You will communicate clearly with suppliers and colleagues, build productive cross-functional relationships and take ownership of delivery. You can manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment, maintain accurate commercial records and positively challenge decisions when the evidence supports a different approach. An understanding of relevant legal, competition, anti-bribery, corruption and intellectual property requirements would be beneficial.

Essential criteria

  • Buying experience with accountability for product ranges, pricing decisions or supplier negotiations.
  • Evidence of using sales, margin, stock, availability or digital performance data to make commercial decisions.
  • Experience creating or delivering range, category, trading or promotional plans against defined targets.
  • Experience building supplier and cross-functional stakeholder relationships to deliver agreed commercial outcomes.
  • Ability to interpret customer, market and competitor insight and convert it into clear range, pricing or trading actions.
