Assistant Management Accountant – 6-Month FTC

We are looking for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our finance team and play an important role in supporting the accurate and timely delivery of management accounts, financial reporting and day-to-day finance operations.

Working closely with colleagues across Finance and the wider business, you’ll help maintain strong financial records, provide insightful analysis and ensure we meet both statutory and internal requirements. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to improving our financial processes and controls, helping to make the way we work more efficient, effective and robust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts in line with the month-end timetable.
  • Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments and other month-end adjustments.
  • Complete balance sheet and profit and loss account reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Process purchase invoices and support supplier payment runs in collaboration with the Finance Assistant.
  • Support bank and corporate credit card reconciliations alongside the Finance Assistant and accounts receivable team.
  • Complete accounts payable month-end close activities and prepare supplier remittance advices.
  • Manage the end-to-end expense process through Spendesk, including validation, timely payment submission, and accurate posting of journals to the system by month-end.
  • Assist with the preparation of VAT returns and maintain accurate supporting records.
  • Support variance analysis, financial tracking and reporting across Group subsidiaries.
  • Work collaboratively with finance colleagues and internal and external stakeholders to support projects and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Contribute to process improvements, robust financial controls and the effective use of finance systems.
  • Produce ad hoc reports and provide wider business support as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

  • AAT qualified or part-qualified, or actively studying towards a recognised professional accounting qualification such as ACCA or CIMA.
  • Relevant experience in a finance or accounting role, including exposure to month-end processes.
  • Experience preparing journals, accruals, prepayments and account reconciliations.
  • Experience using accounting software and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Experience supporting management reporting, budgeting, forecasting or variance analysis is desirable.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good understanding of core accounting principles, double-entry bookkeeping and financial controls.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to organise, reconcile and analyse financial data.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands, meet deadlines and work effectively during busy reporting periods.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to respond to finance queries and work with stakeholders at different levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate discrepancies and explain financial information clearly.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, integrity and continuous improvement.

This is a 6-month fixed-term, part-time role working 20 hours per week across 5 days, with 4 hours worked each day. There is flexibility around the start time, with the working day commencing between 9:00am and 10:00am.

The salary is £22,578 per annum, pro rata for 20 hours per week.
