We have an exciting opportunity available for a Finance Business Analyst to join our team. You will join us on a full-time interim (6 months) position on Crick terms and conditions of employment and in return, you will receive a competitive salary from £42,000 per annum with benefits, subject to skills and experience.
The Finance Business Analyst role:
The Francis Crick Institute (the Crick) is a partnership between the Medical Research Council (MRC), Cancer Research UK (CRUK), the Wellcome Trust, University College London (UCL), Imperial College London and King’s College London. It is a registered charity whose purpose is to conduct biomedical research into all aspects of human health and disease.
A requirement has arisen for a 6-month interim Finance Business Analyst to support the Finance Systems Lead in the documentation and optimisation of processes across the Finance team. Following the implementation of Workday as the organisation’s ERP system in early 2021, the Crick has invested considerably in embedding and stabilising the new system and its associated processes. Whilst this has been successful, there is limited documentation in terms of processes across the team, and a lack of standardisation across the documentation that does exist. There is also a significant opportunity to further refine and improve ways of working across the Finance function.
This role will work with each of the senior Finance leads and their teams (Operations and Control, Financial Planning & Analysis, Pre-Award Grants, Strategic Partnerships, and Sourcing) to ensure that all processes are appropriately documented, producing clear and useful process flows alongside additional documentation where necessary, as well as making recommendations for areas of potential improvement to the overall project sponsor, the Head of Finance Operations and Control.
Responsibilities of our Finance Business Analyst will include:
Implementation of a systematic process of review, with relevant Finance personnel, of all processes across the team, and the documentation of each process (creating process flows along with any required accompanying notes to ensure that processes can be easily understood by new team members, other internal Crick colleagues, and external auditors).
Consolidation of existing process documentation along with review, update and standardisation across the Finance team.
Liaising with external organisations where necessary to develop proposals for potential improvements, including Workday implementation partners.
Capturing impactful recommendations for process improvements and communicating these to the Finance Systems Lead and Head of Finance Operations and Control.
Supporting the Financial Accounting team in any required updates of key accounting policies.
Supporting the Head of Finance Operations and Control in refreshing and updating all internally-published Finance documentation on the Crick intranet.
Leading on and delivering other ad hoc projects as required.
Skills and experience we are looking for in our Finance Business Analyst:
The post holder should embody and demonstrate our core Crick values: bold, imaginative, open, dynamic and collegial, in addition to the following:
Qualified or part-qualified accountant with experience of Finance process documentation and optimisation.
The ability to summarise and communicate processes effectively and concisely, including any recommended optimisations.
Experience of creating best practice process flows and process documentation from scratch.
Excellent written English skills
Previous experience of Finance transformation roles and projects.
Experience of using Workday Financials.
Previous experience of working with not-for-profit / charity reporting requirements.
Previous experience of working in an academic environment.
Closing date: 2nd October 2022
